This band of villains are coming next year, here are some things you should know about them
2016 is going to be a big year for movies. They are releasing Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, X-men Apocalypse, Deadpool and many other big movies. But the one I am excited about is Suicide Squad. The cast photo got released to the public months ago and gave fans a chance to see where the director and crew is going with these well known villains. Before that the photo of the new joker went viral with many people unhappy with how the character is going to look and unsure if this was going to work in the movie. San Diego Comic Con happened a few weeks ago and the first trailer was shown to fans of all ages. The audience went crazy from the beginning to the end, and the joker was finally shown in action. The trailer has been viewed millions of times and I personally cannot wait to see this movie when it comes out.
This film deals with a squad of villains who have committed crimes so twisted and heinous that they defy the imagination. They all live in a maximum security prison with long term life sentences. Amanda Waller runs this facility and comes up with the idea to create this team to do missions that are dangerous and have little chance of success. They are called the Suicide Squad and consist of Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), and Katana (Karen Fukuhara). If something goes wrong Amanda and her people can disassociate themselves with this team and if the squad is successful in their missions time will be shaved off of their sentences.
The trailer has the perfect beginning with Amanda Waller explaining her idea to a few military personnel and it is no secret that they think her idea is crazy. I also really like how Harley Quinn looks, it is different but I can tell Margot has put a lot of work into bringing this character to life. Will is made to play Deadshot. He brings the hard exterior and anger that is necessary to do this character justice. The best part about this trailer is the end. It shows a very familiar villain in a new way that is surprising and awesome. To see what I mean you will have to watch the trailer below.
It is too early to say if this movie is going to be a success or a flop. Fans are torn by what they have seen. Some enjoy the direction it is going but there are those who are unhappy with how the characters look and act. It will be a hard sell for many people but I think it has the potential to do very well. There may be a few surprise cameos in this movie and the story is a very powerful one.
For those who have no idea who these characters are it would help to watch first the animated movie Batman: Assault on Arkham which came out in August 2014. It is a dark picture but gives very good insight into the story and offers some backstory into who they are and why they take on these missions. It is good for adults but kids should not see it, there is way to much adult situations and bloody violence.
This movie comes out in August 2016 and in that time it is safe to say more will be revealed. It is going to be released by DC and therefore will follow an entirely different format from the Marvel movies and is not the simple cut and dry heroes taking on impossible odds. Ant-Man delved into the anti-hero formula a bit yet this Suicide Squad is sure to go further than that movie ever could. This was one of the more popular trailers at Comic Con this year and there are many reasons why. Keep your eyes peeled for new information on this movie and here is hoping the wait will be worth it.
