Collateral Beauty is a film that is full of so much emotion that it easily becomes overkill

I like Will Smith as an actor. He was wonderful on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and he is a great movie actor too. I enjoyed his performances in all of the Men in Black movies. Yet not all of his films are hits. He has a new film coming out called Collateral Beauty. I was able to see it early and here is what I thought of it.

You can read the plot for Collateral Beauty here:

When a successful New York advertising executive (Will Smith) suffers a great tragedy he retreats from life. While his concerned friends try desperately to reconnect with him, he seeks answers from the universe by writing letters to Love, Time and Death. But it’s not until his notes bring unexpected personal responses that he begins to understand how these constants interlock in a life fully lived, and how even the deepest loss can reveal moments of meaning and beauty.

Collateral Beauty is okay, but it is not the big time blockbuster it wants to be. It has a good cast, an interesting plot and yet this just wasn’t enough. This film pushes the audience to feel so much emotion throughout the story that it becomes too much real quick.

The only stand out stars for me are Helen Mirren, Keira Knightley and Jacob Latimore. These are the only characters that have a real purpose and are the only ones who do anything for this story. If you want to learn more about Collateral Beauty head over to this website.

Collateral Beauty gets 5/10. It is a film that tries way too hard to be dramatic which quickly gets tedious. No matter how hard this film tried to tug at my heart strings it just had no affect on me at all. Some people may like this film, but it will definitely not be for everyone.

Collateral Beauty comes out this Friday. You can follow Collateral Beauty on Facebook and Twitter.
